year: 2023 | terrazzo with building waste
porto, portugal | self-initiative
This multifunctional tray is the result of an entirely handmade process that uses construction and demolition waste to create this design piece. Inspired by the traditional terrazzo technique, known for combining fragments of stone or glass materials to generate distinct surfaces, the piece features a pattern and texture that bring out a strong visual and tactile character. Its contemporary design reinterprets this traditional technique and fuses the heritage of craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic.
The piece has a carefully shaped central concavity, which allows it to be used versatilely both as a pocket tray,
ideal for accommodating small everyday objects, and as a stand for fruit or other decorative items. Its minimalist, geometric design makes it easy to integrate into a variety of environments. The silicone feet, discreetly incorporated into the base, offer a practical solution by ensuring stability and preventing scratches or damage to surfaces.
